As Rates Fall, So too do CD rates

CD rates came down dramatically over the weekend following Thursday and Friday's sharp fall in short term Treasury yields.  Some of the banks that have been quickest to drop their CD offers and savings rates have been very closely tied to the mortgage lending risks - including Countrywide, GMAC and IndyMac.  As always, please visit BestCashCow.com to see the best current offerings.

Savings Rates are Firm but CD Rates Pull Back

As longer term interest rates continue to fall due to the the perception that the Fed will pause, short term CD rates have begun to fall after Labor Day. So far, most savings rates have held firm.                   

AmTrust Moves Ahead on CDs

On July 29, AmTrust Bank unveiled very interesting promotional CD rates.  A 4.00% is offered on CDs over $100,000 with 4, 5 or 6-month durations.  The rate dramatically exceeds any other rates offered on 4 or 5 month CDs, and slightly exceeds Corus Bank's 3.93% offer on a 6-month (The Corus CD requires only on a $10,000 deposit.)  AmTrust has also unveiled a 12-month rate of 4.25% on deposits of only $500 (Corus offers a 4.26% rate on deposits over $100,000 and a 4.21% on deposits over $10,000).
